Volunteering at the Jewish Home
Why Volunteer
- Help enrich lives.
- Develop new friendships.
- Revive a personal talent or interest.
- Make a difference in someone's life today!
We all have special skills and talents. Whatever yours may be, the Jewish Home will help put them to good use. Our residents are full of wit and wisdom, and have a wealth of knowledge to share. They are engaged in a wide range of activities that stimulate and satisfy myriad interests.
Volunteering is also a wonderful way for you to explore career opportunities in the health care field, enhance your resumé or college application, and network with others. The Jewish Home needs your special talents today to help enrich the lives of our elders.
The Jewish Home welcomes energetic, dedicated people who enjoy working with grateful seniors, and can commit to volunteering at least once a week.
Whatever your interests, skills or talents, the Home has meaningful ways to engage you. Our ever-expanding variety of rewarding volunteer opportunities includes being a resident companion, driver or mobility assistant, artist-in-residence, performing artist, administrative, event planning, or fundraising assistant, and many more.

Regardless of the amount of time you are able to donate, your caring and involvement are priceless to the community and to the Home's remarkable residents.
Hundreds of dedicated volunteers share more than 55,000 hours of their time each year with residents of the Jewish Home. These generous people make immeasurable contributions to the lives of others. With their many skills and talents, our volunteers help the Jewish Home care for our seniors as though they were our own mothers and fathers.
Meet Linda Spitz, our Community Volunteer Coordinator
For
over 15 years, Linda Spitz has overseen the volunteer program at the Jewish Home
that now numbers nearly 200 dedicated people.
"Enriching the lives of both seniors and volunteers takes imagination, but the rewards are great," says Linda. Volunteer positions may develop out of a departmental request, but just as often she discovers something new and unexpected when meeting with a volunteer candidate.
"We work to match an individual's experience with our residents' interests. For example, a volunteer might mention she is into travel and photography, has a wonderful collection of slides, and a gift for storytelling. Suddenly, we have a wonderful program!"
Linda also believes in maintaining a hands-on relationship with volunteers. She is in constant communication as an advisor, not only to acknowledge their service, but to facilitate and improve their experience at the Home.
"It's a wonderful time to volunteer," she says. "The need is great. People are retiring a little earlier and enjoy discretionary time to share a wide range of personal and professional experience. Everyone benefits!"
