Torah for the Ages
a project of the Los Angeles Jewish Home
The magnificent scroll that contains the foundation of Jewish religion, thought, law, and society, unites us across the generations with its power, wisdom, and beauty.
Each Torah is a unique, handwritten document, its life ever-renewed by the community that studies, cherishes, and passes on its timeless lessons.
As it has from the beginning, the Torah's beauty and grandeur bring us together as a family and as a people in the celebration of life. Now, for the first time in our near 100-year history, the Jewish Home is creating its own "living" Torah with the hands-on participation of our families, residents, and community members.
When completed, the Torah for the Ages will reside in the Home's synagogues to inspire generation after generation with a living connection to faith and community, and the message that they are cared for body, mind, and spirit.
There are 304,805 Hebrew letters in the Torah, each one of which is artfully inscribed on specially-prepared parchment. Torah for the Ages invites you to participate in the moving experience of writing in the Torah with the guidance of a Torah scribe.
As we gather as a community to write the Torah, every one of us, from the youngest to the eldest, will find new meaning in its verses, and a life-giving connection to the traditions we carry forth. When completed, the Torah for the Ages will bring new light and meaning to residents, many of whom are living through the most challenging times of their lives.
As a sponsor, you may also give a grateful Jewish Home resident or residents the opportunity to write in the Torah. All participants will be generously recognized and receive a commemorative photo and certificate acknowledging their gift and inscription session. Sponsors at higher levels will be invited to a special culminating event to celebrate the completion of the new Torah.
Join us in enriching life at the Jewish Home, connecting the generations, and caring for the seniors who will be inspired for years to come by the living Torah we create today.
