New Auerbach Unit Certification
The Home's state-of-the-art Auerbach Geriatric Psychiatry Unit has just received
its long-anticipated designation as an LPS Facility from Los Angeles County. The
new designation allows the Home to admit seniors 60+ for acute psychiatric care
services on an involuntary basis.
LPS refers to the California Mental Health law known as the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act, which permits involuntary admission of a person deemed to have a psychiatric crisis or disorder that makes them a danger to themselves or others. This type of admission may be initiated by a physician, clinician, peace officer or concerned family member.
Brett Fielder, chief operating officer of the Jewish Home, notes that the new LPS designation is a significant accomplishment for the Home as a regional provider of senior healthcare programs and a vital new mental health resource for the seniors and families of Los Angeles County.
