First Participants Praise BCSC ExperienceSince February 2013, the San Fernando Valley has had an entirely new option for senior care, and initial reactions have been extremely positive. The Brandman Centers for Senior Care (BCSC), the Jewish Home's new Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) facility, offers the Valley?s aging population Jewish Home-level care along with living safely in the comfort of their own homes.

On the evening of Tuesday, April 23, 2013, the main dining room at the Jewish Home's Eisenberg Village was transformed from a vibrant gathering place into one of the most happening scenes in town. With a great band playing, the room festively decorated, and the dance floor full, it was definitely the place to be!

It was a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon when Amy (Niznick) Konheim and her 11-year-old daughter, Ashley, visited the Joyce Eisenberg-Keefer Medical Center on the Jewish Home's Grancell Village campus. The Konheim and Niznick families have supported the Jewish Home for three generations, but this visit was different. Ashley had come up with the superb idea of spending time with a small group of residents playing one of her favorite games: Mahjong.

Sharing Traditions, Making FriendsLast year, as part of the Jewish Home's Centennial celebration, a model Seder was held at Keiro Senior Healthcare in Boyle Heights, the birthplace of the Home. Skirball Hospice & A Week of LearningSkirball Hospice, a program of the Los Angeles Jewish Home, will host two panel discussions as part of the citywide Jewish Wisdom and Wellness: A Week of Learning. Holocaust Survivors' Group Strengthens Bonds, Heals WoundsIt was just another afternoon at the Jewish Home when eight residents gathered in the Zuckerman Board Room. The location is often used for events and discussion groups. Only this group was different. The tattoos on each of the residents' forearms symbolized a painful shared bond from their youth. These residents were all Holocaust survivors.
